The Americans With Disabilities Act Amendments The primary purpose of the Amendments is to reverse the limiting restrictions regarding the definition of disability imposed by EEOC’s implementing regulations and the Supreme Court’s decisions in the Sutton v. United Air Lines Inc., 527 U.S. 471 (1999) and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. v. Williams, 534 U.S. 184 (2002).
The intent is to restore the eligibility of those believed to be entitled to protection under the ADA (by extension the Rehabilitation Act) who were denied coverage because of the above noted restrictive enforcement and legal interpretation.
