LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT FOUND IN VIOLATION OF THE ADA AND SECTION 504.

In a July 22, 2019 ruling, a federal district court issued a ruling against the College regarding the failure to provide accessible course/instructional materials, denial of equal access to library resources; procuring and using inaccessible educational technology (e.g., Pearson MyMathLab) and maintaining an inaccessible website. The College was ordered to:

  • Implement an Alternative Media Production Policy;
  • Ensure that all library resources are fully accessible, establish alternative means of access to inaccessible resources or discontinue the use of inaccessible resources;
  • Appoint or designate a Dean of Educational Technology to ensure the provision of accessible course/instructional materials to blind students and compliance with the Alternate Media Policy;
  • Ensure that the College’s websites are made accessible; and
  • Evaluate all educational resources and technological programs for accessibility prior to procurement.
